Behind every picture

there's a story

Its always the smiles

San Francisco is a great city for street photography. There's always something even if nothing is going on. I was walking on Powell street when I saw this beautiful woman behind the glass window of a jewellery store. I instantly knew this was going to be a good shot. Maybe she wanted to help me. Maybe, she was flirting with me. I'd like to believe, it's the latter. But her eyes fell straight on my lens and a mysterious connection was established through the glass window. Is this picture worth framing? Probably not. But is the story worth sharing? Hell yeah.

Sometimes you get lucky

I was returning from an early morning shoot in Capitola, by Santa Cruz in California. I had started the day at 4 in the morning and it was 8 when I was driving back home. Past sunrise and well past the golden light. The sky had suddenly turned foggy when I drove past the reservoir on Highway 17. I almost didn't stop because I was too tired, but changed my mind to go take a look. I parked my car on the shoulder illegally and started walking towards the reservoir. The thick fog, the sun making every effort to pierce through it, and four men on a canoe. It was gorgeous. After capturing the moment, I just stood there, completely mesmerized.

And sometimes you get lost

Sunset near Santa Cruz Beach. I am by myself. I was busy climbing small almost-dangerous cliffs to get the perfect view of the rocks in the sea. I noticed an interesting structure to the south but couldn't tell what it was. I walked for almost ten minutes and saw this towering rock right in the middle of the Pacific ocean, as if someone had planted it. The waves were violently crashing against the rock and the sky was turning a light pink. I couldn't get enough. I stayed back, a bit too long in fact. The sun had set and and there was absolutely no light to guide me back to my car. I was completely lost. I was getting cold and started panicking. After almost 45 minutes of wandering in the dark, I made it back to my car. This image was totally worth getting lost.

When humans are intruders

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. It was a hot afternoon and the radios are buzzing with activity. A lioness is hungry and is looking for a kill. There's immense tension in the air and ten jeeps are waiting to capture the action. The lioness spots a group of zebras. She takes her time, but starts to pick up her pace. The zebras notice and start running. For their life, if I may add. They cross the mud road and get to the other side. The lioness gives up and goes home hungry. The zebras escape, at least for now.
